Upon referral, our newly expanded service offers eight free counselling sessions to clients attending a regional fertility hub.
Everyone’s journey to parenthood is unique. If you’re hoping to conceive, the process can sometimes be more difficult than expected. According to the HSE, one in six heterosexual couples in Ireland are likely to have trouble conceiving.
If you’re finding it difficult to become pregnant or have a condition which affects fertility, a doctor may recommend that you undergo testing. If eligible, you may be referred to a HSE fertility hub for further tests, treatment, and advice. From here, your consultant can connect you with the IFPA for free fertility counselling.
Fertility treatment can be demanding and emotionally exhausting
Waiting and anticipating test results can feel draining as hope and excitement quickly shift to disappointment after failed cycles.
Some people will experience anxiety around treatments, while having to plan sex around treatment schedules can add pressure or emotional complexity to intimacy.
What you find difficult about the process may differ from your partner’s experience and feelings. Everyone has their own way of dealing with the challenges. These differences can lead to misunderstandings and put strain on relationships.

Our counsellors offer expert support to help you through this journey. You can attend eight HSE-funded counselling sessions individually or as a couple.
