The Irish Family Planning Association (IFPA) is recruiting a part-time (18 hours p.w.) Crisis Pregnancy Counsellor, for our Dublin Counselling Centres. This position will be based on a renewable 12-month contract.

 

Job Purpose:

  • The Crisis Pregnancy Counsellor will provide counselling to women, young girls, couples and families experiencing an unintended pregnancy or a pregnancy that has become a crisis.
  • The IFPA is a pro-choice organisation and our Crisis Pregnancy Counsellor will support a woman’s own choice in all cases.
  • The Crisis Pregnancy Counsellor will provide clients with information and counselling on all options: including adoption, parenting and abortion.
  • This information and counselling is provided face to face in line with current legislation.
  • The Crisis Pregnancy Counsellor will provide post-abortion counselling and support to woman and their families.

 

Key Objectives:

The successful candidate will be required to:

  • Be client-centered so that clients can discuss and explore their feelings, beliefs and circumstances.
  • Be knowledgeable about parenting, adoption and abortion.
  • Provide clients with information, counselling and emotional support, safeguard their wellbeing and respect their confidentiality.
  • Provide crisis pregnancy counselling to clients in accordance with IFPA policy and procedures and work to the Director of Counselling.
  • Promote the IFPA service and network with relevant organisations.
  • Abide by professional standards and code of ethics.

 

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Counselling qualification of at least degree standard.
  • IACP/IAHIP accreditation or equivalent.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ counselling experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of pregnancy counselling is desirable

Salary will be dependent on experience and qualifications.

Appointment to this role is subject to Garda vetting.
