IFPA Newsletter November 2014

The IFPA has had a busy two months delivering sexual health training to a total of 57 people, including parents, carers and support workers.

Speakeasy, the IFPA’s eight week training programme designed to provide parents with the information and skills to talk to their children about relationships, sexuality and keeping safe, was delivered to parents at family resource centres in Monaghan and Navan, in association with Tusla – Child and Family Agency. Speakeasy was also delivered to a group of parents at South West Inner City Network (SWICN) in Dublin.

Speakeasy Plus, which is catered to the needs of parents of children with a physical or intellectual disability or with extra support needs, was delivered to parents at Rathfarnham Educate Together School and Tallaght Education Centre, the latter in partnership with RUA, Callan Institute, Saint John of God Hospitaller Ministries.

The IFPA delivered its one day sexual health training to support workers at RUA, Callan Institute, Saint John of God Hospitaller Ministries. This training is held annually and covers the basics of sexual and reproductive health, as well as other issues such as healthy relationships, legislation and the age of consent.

In November, the IFPA took part in Irish Autism Action’s Autism Exposition, an annual event featuring information stands, talks and activities. The IFPA provided information on our education and training services, including our Speakeasy Plus training for parents of children with disabilities or extra support needs.
