The Progestogen-Only Pill (POP, mini-pill)
Effectiveness: When used properly is it 99.6% effective.
What is it?
Hormonal Contraception. This pill contains only progestogen. You take one pill every single day, with no break between packs.
Is it for you?
There are different types of progestogen available. The POP is suitable for women who cannot tolerate estrogen. It is also good for use during breast-feeding as it doesn’t affect the milk.
It must be taken at the same time each day, or it does not work. If a pill is missed it MUST be taken within 3 hours. Some women find that this is a real negative to taking this kind of pill.
It can also cause irregular bleeding, or no bleeding at all, and initially may induce temporary side effects such as acne, tender breast, bloating or headaches.
