What is it?
Barrier Contraception. A small plastic and copper t-shaped device. It is inserted into the womb by a trained doctor or nurse. Depending on the type in can be left in for between 3 and 10 years, but check-ups are required every 6 months.
It stops you from getting pregnant by stopping the egg and sperm meeting, because the copper actually immobilizes the sperm.
Is it for you?
It provides a long term contraceptive option, however, it is more strongly recommend for use after women have had families.
It can be used as emergency contraception, if it is fitted up to five days after unprotected sex, but this should only be used as a back-up.
