What is it?
Hormonal Contraception. It is a small plastic rod filled with progestogen that is released in tiny doses. It is inserted into the upper arm, were it lies comfortable between the two muscles. The hormone is release over three years, but it can be removed at any time. Once it is removed normal fertility levels return.
Is it for you?
It is particularly suitable for girls who would like long-term contraception, and who think they may have trouble remembering to take a tablet every day.
It also involves the use of a minor surgical procedure for insertion and removal; however, this is done in the doctor’s office and is almost entirely pain-free.
