Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a blood born virus.

It can be spread in a large number of ways, including, vaginal sex, anal sex, oral sex, and through sharing needles and razors. This infection can also be spread by kissing and sharing of toothbrushes.

There may be no symptoms of the virus in the early stages, however, if there are they will usually appear within 4 weeks of infection. Initially you may feel very tired, suffer from headaches or hives. As the disease progresses symptoms begin to include stomach pain, dark coloured pee and darkening of the skin and the whites of the eyes.

There is no cure for Hep B and it eventually causes liver disease and in a very few cases death. The best protection from it is a series of vaccinations that are available from your doctor.
