Medical Training Courses
The IFPA has been offering Family Planning Courses for doctors and nurses since 1977.
The programme aims to enable family doctors, nurses and other medical practitioners to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to provide a family planning service of high medical standard.
OVERVIEW
- The post-graduate education programme comprise two days of theoretical training and six sessions of practical training.
- The programme is certified by the Joint Committee of Family Planning and have An Bord Altranais Category 1 approval.
- The next theoretical training course will take place on Saturday 25 & Sunday 26 September 2010 (agenda to be confirmed)
PRACTICAL TRAINING
- On completion of the two-day theoretical element participants have up to two years in which to complete the practical training. A minimum of six sessions must be completed with an instructing doctor.
- Doctors can do the practical training in either of the IFPA Dublin based clinics, or any family planning instruction doctor (list provided at course). Nurses can do their training in either of the IFPA's Dublin clinics, or opt to do it in Limerick FPA or Cork FPA (there may be an additional fee for this).
COST
- Nurses: theoretical training costs €400 (to be paid on submission of registration form), and practical training costs €100 (to be paid on attendance at first session).
- Doctors: theoretical training cost €400 (to be paid on submission of registration form), and the practical training costs €250 (to be paid on attendance at first session).
